Yackandandah is a striking juxtaposition between a lively, fascinating history and the current town - known far and wide for its progressive and community minded spirit.
Think gold, bushrangers and legends of escape tunnels! Or hear the more recent history of the tight-knit community and their nationally recognised achievements - from creating the world’s longest bunting to setting their latest goal: ‘100% renewables by 2022”.
Whatever your interest, the best way to experience this unique pocket of the High Country is on your own two feet! Take a guided tour and expect a whole lot of intrigue, answers, questions and fun, or make your own way and take time to appreciate landmarks like the Historic Courthouse, the first school and the hotel. The beauty of Yackandandah (affectionately known as “Yack” to the locals) extends far past the human factor too, with stunning views headlining the Valley View walk and local fauna never too far (keep your eyes peeled for a resident platypus when on the Gorge Scenic Walk).
